Team Introduction

Manchester Stinger Motorsports is first and foremost an immense opportunity to learn. University Students typically have little opportunity to get hands on experience, so Formula Student provides the chance to learn how the theory in our courses translates to a real-world project. The team is comprised of passionate and diverse people always willing to give the project their best. New minds are added to the equation every year and unlike most other teams, we take on students from all academic years and degree programs at The University of Manchester. We always strive to maintain a fun working environment with inclusion and equality close to our hearts in everything we do.
Each year, we participate in the Formula Student UK competition organised by the IMechE and held at Silverstone. The winning team is not solely based on the fastest car (dynamic events), but also considers the engineering approach we’ve taken to get there (static events). The careful consideration of Cost, Design Justification, and how a larger business runs helps us develop into fully fledged engineers with skills prominently used in industry such as public speaking, project management, collaboration and much more.
Not only do we compete, but we also aim to promote STEM in attending events where we present our car and team to encourage children and women into engineering. (Photos from the events can be found in our gallery – we’d love to see you there)
This year we’re building our first Electric Vehicle, an 80kW (107 horsepower) single-motor design. As we venture into a new space to learn and develop, your help and support would mean a lot for the team. It would help us improve our skills, expand our knowledge and employability, but most of all keep us having fun and enjoying the journey of Formula Student we all embarked on.
